Welcome to Ezinne Arua Blog
I know the days Blank Panther review flooded our cyberspace is long gone. Regardless, here’s my own review.
Sorry I’m late.
My appraisal isn’t an overall impression of the film, but of a narrative that struck me. A narrative that plays out in our society today.
You remember W’Kabi, the head of security in Wakana? He was a childhood friend of T’Challa and has proved to be a loyal friend.
Apparently, the loyalty didn’t last forever.
The shift changed when a new contender, Killmonger showed up.
What bought him over?
Quest for power? No.
It was for vengeance for his parent’s death.
His parent’s had been murdered earlier and he implored his friend, the King to seek vengeance. The King didn’t act as he had wanted. As soon as someone else gave him the satisfaction, of killing his parent’s murder, he tilted his allegiance.
Imagine, a head of security and loyal friend being derailed by one single motivation.
Politically, many of us are like that. We are blinded by a fixated motivation and we disregard every other consideration in our appraisal of who to follow.
Black Panther may be a movie, but it’s not unheard of for people to throw their support and rally the support of others just because the contender is from their tribe, state, village or any fact of mutuality.
Indeed, no contender can be an absolute embodiment of all that is right but being guarded by just one motivation, above all others could be fatal.
What happens when the promise is realized?
What happens when it’s not?
What happens if its realization is accompanied by many undesirables?
This is Nigeria. It’s unarguable that many citizens are led by ethnic bias. Our leadership and followers is coloured by that.
Where has it led us?
Well, not to paradise, to say the least.
Tomorrow being 9th of March 2019, we are going out once more to vote.
Can you in your personal thought be objective about the reason for your preference for a candidate.
Is it because he’s from your village? Or he’s a close friend so you hope to be on the beneficial side of nepotism. Or because your candidate is the contender of someone you despise passionately. So even if he’s Satan, as long as he or she displaces that your sworn enemy, the Satan can go on and lead you to hell.
Rumours made round that Tinubu admitted that Buhari is not the most efficient leader in the world, but he’ll continue to support him as long as he’s 2023 political interest is preserved.
Not that anyone needs a million and one reasons to support a candidate. One reason, one cardinal reason can suffice. After all Buhari rode to power on the promise of ending corruption. And we believed that once corruption is nipped, many other things will fall into place. On that many voted him,the first time. I really can’t wrap my head around why anyone voted him the second time. Maybe they have their fixated motivation I know nothing of.
But look where we are. Corruption is still very much with us.
You see, danger of a single motivation.
PS: For those who mix up the names of characters in Blank Panther or those who, just like me, were never able to hold more names asides T’Challa and Shuri, W’Kabi is the character pictured below.Tags: Black panther, Ezinne Arua, Nigerian election, Vote
